The duration of my trip to the Cape Verde islands, specifically Boa Vista, lasted 10 days. However these images below were all taken over one day (except the monkey on the beach) whilst on a trip provided by the hotel into the main town called Sal Rei which is where all the produce is shipped out and in to the island, providing a source of income for locals.
I really loved my trip to Cape Verde because it is such a colourful place! They hand paint most things (including boats, schools, houses etc). I love the rugged landscape of the island; the flaking paint and the crumbling concrete which somehow still has vibrance and life to it. I love the sense of community they have in Sal Rei - they have a public clothes washing station where the woman go during the day (depicted below) to sing, chat and clean for their families. Everyone I encountered seemed happy and this made me happy. It also made me think about what I brought in my suitcase with me, and how much I thought I 'needed' to sustain me for my trip. The truth is I didn't really need any of it - I can sustain my happiness with the company of the people around me.
